Making a start
Most items in the 'Developing Ideas' section have references to further sources of information, many with links to web sites. Go to a highlighted site simply by clicking on the link.
1) A good first question to ask:
What access do I / students have to the types of ICT available?
- (Remember it's not only access to ICT - but also familiarity with it.
There may be a very good reason for using something new, e.g. PowerPoint presentation software, but remember that initial preparation time will be longer until experience and confidence is built up.)
2) The next question to be asked is: Who is the audience?
Encourage thinking about the intended audience: this should affect the presentation of ideas, the language and images used, speed of transition of images and the design of any support material.
- Age group?
- Purpose of assignment / presentation - is the RE purpose the first priority?
- Used by one person, group or class?
- Availability for future use?
3) Deciding which type of ICT to use
Several factors need to be borne in mind, including:
- The skills already held and time available for preparation.
It's worth checking how much time is estimated for the ICT part of the activity compared with time for RE.
- The software/hardware available and ease of access to it.
- The type of ICT which lends itself best to the type of presentation chosen.
- The type of presentation the chosen audience is likely to favour.
