Developing ICT

Presentation Software

e.g. Microsoft PowerPoint (there are alternatives)

A presentation medium, such as PowerPoint, can be used to explain an idea or tell a story. Dynamic visual presentations including text, full-colour images, sounds, animations, charts and graphs can be produced. Handouts can also be prepared to supplement the presentation. It can be shared on a computer monitor for individual or small group viewing or projected for larger groups to see.

PowerPoint software has to be installed on a computer for viewing as well as making a presentation. It is an easy package to master especially for those who have used other Microsoft products like Word.

Remember:

  • Ideas need to be carefully structured. There is not much space on each slide, and detailed descriptions are not appropriate.
  • Text and graphics can be animated, but such features call for careful planning in deciding where in the presentation they appear on screen. This helps emphasise key points and allows illustrations to be included.
  • You can add sound – but its use should be planned carefully, and remember that sometimes silence can be very effective.
