About Better RE

Better RE exists to provide advice, support and encouragement for RE teachers advisers and other professionals seeking to raise standards in RE teaching and learning. It deals chiefly with the management and assessment of RE. The website was created in order to build upon work already done on the use of ICT in RE so that material related more exactly to the latest national developments in RE in England and Wales.

As well as providing material directly related to the attainment targets in the non-statutory national framework for RE, Better RE also picks up the challenge of promoting good RE in the context of self-evaluation for Ofsted Inspections. All of this material is relevant for teachers of RE in Wales, though level statements and inspection arrangements differ. Of particular help here is the Self-Evaluation Toolkit, which provides RE leaders with ideas, methods, background and examples to make a complete evaluation of RE in their school. You can find the toolkit under the 'Leadership + Management' tab above.

New material has now been developed for 'teachers with other specialisms' too, in order to support those who find themselves, perhaps reluctantly, teaching or leading RE for the first time, whether in a Primary, Secondary or Special school. See the links under 'Good RE' for this.

Better RE, as a member of the REonline family of websites, provides links to many other websites checked for content appropriate for use in RE. Links are checked regularly, but REonline has no editorial control over external sites. Please note that when a link is made to a particular page, this does not imply an endorsement of the whole of the contents of that website.
