BetterRE - for teachers, advisers, and RE professionals

(Decorative Flash Animation)

An introduction to BetterRE

The materials on this website are presented in the light of recent national developments in religious education in England and Wales, but with full recognition that it is for local authorities to determine the RE syllabus (except where aided or special agreement schools are following arrangements under the trust deed for the school). The site contains four main sections (see details below): 'Good RE', 'Assessment', 'Leadership & Management' and 'Using ICT in RE'. Together, these sections are intended to help teachers at different stages of expertise and experience in making improvements in their provision of the subject > 'Better RE'.

Links are provided on this site to guidance provided in England and Wales, though examples of assessment exemplification currently only make reference to the English non-statutory level statements.

In order to keep the site current and relevant it would be good to have your suggestions for additional materials, particularly those produced by your pupils. If you are interested in sharing examples of interesting ICT or print based work produced by pupils please - we look forward to hearing from you.

Good RE

This section provides the definition of Good RE according to English and Welsh qualifications and inspection services, and contains links and guides to good practice and the non-statutory national framework for RE (NSNFRE) in England. You will also find a step-by-step guide for 'teachers with other specialisms' who find themselves teaching or leading RE for the first time, or who are thinking of broadening their knowledge and understanding of the subject.

In this section you will find suggested answers to these and other questions to do with leading and managing RE effectively in your school. In addition, you will find the nationally acclaimed Self-Evaluation Toolkit, providing you with everything you need to evaluate the provision for RE in your school.
